More Than Mere Methods

Unbiblical counseling methods ruin the world. This has been the case since Eden and it will continue to be the case until Christ comes. Proof of the craftiness of the first temptation and of current error is that an overtly satanic message comes packaged in a seemingly benign or even beneficial counseling method. This is true of current trends in biblical counseling.

THE SUBTLE DECEPTION IN ADAM’S GARDEN

The subtlety of the Serpent’s first temptation in the Garden of Eden cannot be overstated. In fact, before Moses records that fatal interaction between Eve and Satan, he introduces the conversation by offering this insightful reminder, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which Yahweh God had made” (Genesis 3:1). If that introductory observation doesn’t suffice to convince us, then the ensuing conversation should. The Serpent’s work was complete in only five verses! Truly, who can doubt such craft! Such skill in deceit!

It’s worth noting not only that Satan deceived so quickly, but also how he speedily deceived the woman who was with her husband, Adam (Genesis 3:6). The Serpent’s satanic message was smuggled into the Garden by way of a counseling method.
